Term Project
Guidelines
Analyze an existing company’s Information Technology Department. Usually it would have at least 4 – 6 or more staff members. If it has less than the 4 – 6 staff, they should have a consulting firm under contract to support the department.
Project Outline
Section 1 – Business Description
Provide a succinct description of the business. If possible, include relevant financials.
Section 2 – Describe the Information Technology Department
Describe the Information Technology department and include an organizational chart (if available). Include key staff titles (not names) and the type of hardware they are using. Also include core functional software applications.
Section 3 – Software Application
The traditional software application medical goals are:
1. Improve medical knowledge.
2. Improve medical processes and services.
3. Improve medical communications and people collaboration.
You are to select a medical software application and:
1. Describe the application area e.g. EHR, CPOE, etc.
2. Describe how the project was started. What key executives were involved?
3. Who was the catalyst for the project?
4. What area of the medical system is involved?
5. How was the information gathered for this project?
6. What involvement did the user department have and what role did IT play?
7. If the results of the analysis indicated that a Request for Proposal (RFP) was prepared, then who was the originator of the RFP?
a. What was the procedure for selecting the vendor for the purchase of the application software?
b. What was the criteria for selecting the vendor?
c. How did the selectors know that the vendor could provide the necessary service/software?
d. What did the vendor do to convert the existing application data to the new application data requirements?
e. What method of conversion was used and was it successful?
f. Describe the method that indicated the new systems balances to the old systems starting on the first day of implementation.
g. What training was necessary for the user department?
h. Who provided the training?
i. What method of conversion was used to create the new application files?
j. Was the system delivered on budget and on time?
k. Describe the user’s reception of the new system.

8. Since the analysis did NOT involve the RFP, the systems design was accomplished in-house.

The format for the solutions is 1) no maximum, double spaces using Times New Roman, 12-point.
